Ceremonial county
Wiltshire
Salisbury and Swindon are both in Wiltshire and are not the same economy.
Wiltshire is a ceremonial county. Swindon, in the north, is the larger town: a railway town with logistics, offices and national employers. Salisbury, in the south, is a smaller cathedral city serving the south of the county and the people who come for the cathedral and the surrounding countryside.
The road between them is long enough that a same-day tradesperson is a specific promise, not a default. This directory lists them as separate towns for that reason. Chippenham, Trowbridge, Devizes and Marlborough are not pages in this launch.
Swindon is a unitary authority inside ceremonial Wiltshire, in the same way Bath sits inside ceremonial Somerset. It is listed under Wiltshire because that is the region people mean.
- Choose Salisbury or Swindon before you choose a category.
- A national firm with a Swindon office may not take local domestic work. Read the description.
- Salisbury's centre and its out-of-town trade parks are different errands.
