Unitary authority
Bristol
A city and a unitary authority. It has its own hub so it is not filed under Somerset or Gloucestershire.
Bristol is not a county. It is a city with its own council, a historic harbour, a large student population and a spread of neighbourhood high streets. It sits in this directory as a peer of the counties because that is how people search, and because folding it into a neighbour would be less accurate.
This launch has one listings page for the whole city. Clifton, Bedminster, Southville, Stokes Croft, Easton and the centre are not separate towns yet. A restaurant in Clifton and a workshop in Avonmouth will appear together until neighbourhood pages exist. The address on the listing is what tells them apart.
South Gloucestershire, North Somerset and Bath and North East Somerset wrap around the city and are not part of this hub. Weston-super-Mare and Bath are under Somerset. A BS postcode is not, by itself, a Bristol address.
- Name the neighbourhood when you enquire. The city page will not do that for you.
- Crossing the centre at busy times is slow. Ask where the business actually is.
- A registered office in a Bristol serviced building may not be a shop you can visit.
